PowerBasic, EZGUI and Windows tablets

Exciting news ! Intel is working on its StudyBook tablet for education. There is suppose to be a Windows version as well.

Tablet computers running Windows pose a challenge for programmers, because they use Atom CPU’s which many programmers may not consider powerful enough to run their Windows applications. The minimal memory (1 gig) and small SSD size also poses a challenge too, because much of the software today is bloated and large.

This is a great opportunity for PowerBasic and EZGUI users, because as you know, we can build apps with a tiny footprint compared to other programming languages, especially the managed languages.

I look forward to seeing the StudyBook tablets when they hit the market.

I really like the concept of this tablet, especially a Windows version. It will have a 7 inch capacitive touch screen (1024 x 600) with the same resolution as Netbooks. I recently was shopping around and got a look at some nice 7 inch tablets (Android) and I really like the size. Now a larger size tablet is good for real work, say in a business, but a 7 inch tablet is so small, light and portable it really is nice.

The StudyBook,  if priced right,  could be a real hit.

Now Powerbasic and my EZGUI combined would be a great way to develop software for such a tablet, especially if it comes with minimal ram (1 gig) and a small SSD.
