Two interesting KickStarter projects

While most of the projects I have browsed on KickStarter don’t have much appeal to me, two I have come across really excite me.

The first which had overwhelming support and is now fully funded (far beyond their goal) is PrinterBot. Most of the DIY 3D printer kits are still too expensive. PrinterBots design appears to be very well thought out and if they succeed, it may the first low cost 3D printer for the masses. This is very exciting.

The second project is by a young fellow which is impressive in itself (his father is helping him out), but is not yet funded. The concept is sound in my opinion and very interesting. He wants to develop and market large tablet PC’s (ie. 17 inch). There may be a market for this and it does intrigue me. What I found even more impressive was his idea of making the tablet upgradable , like we can do with a desktop computer. One of the things I don’t like about laptop and tablet computers is that once you buy it, you are basically stuck with you get with little option for upgrades. Upgrades for some mobile devices are also quite difficult and not for the faint of heart (ie. My Acer Netbook can have memory upgraded, but you basically have to tear it apart to do it). The young mans idea of a large tablet PC (running Windows) which can have replacable parts, even the CPU is very sound and a good idea.

His project is not yet funded, so if you have an interest in it, please check it out.
